Carolina Jewel Farmhouse
Beautiful Reems Creek Valley is home to the Historic Carolina Jewel Inn
The Carolina Jewel has 5 bedrooms in the historic 1845 Victorian Farmhouse. Each of the suites in the historic home, listed as the “Brigman-Chambers House” on the National Register of Historic Places, has its' own unique charm. All bedrooms have private baths and working fireplaces. The oldest portion of the home was built in 1845 and has rustic rough-hewn logs in the great room with its fireplace made of rocks pulled from the fields outside. Adjacent to the great room is the fully stocked modern kitchen and laundry room for your use. In 1880 an addition of the Victorian style, was added to the log cabin to accommodate the growing family.
The Sapphire Serenity Suite faces the west for sunrises that gently wake you from a restful night sleep on the king size pillow top sleeper. (Yes, our guests rave about our mattresses that is why we want you to know). The double doors to the master bathroom with the Jacuzzi tub can sooth tired muscles after a day of hiking or bicycling the Blue Ridge Parkway, or just wash your worries away.
The Emerald Escape Suite has retained its up-scale country charm with a high four poster rice bed and antiques. Lace window treatment billow in the wind should you choose fresh air over the central air-conditioning. You will enjoy the eclectic touch of color in bathroom with steps leading down to the antique claw-footed tub, white bead board walls and white eyelet curtains.
The Garnet Getaway is warm and cozy with its antiques and fireplace. Garnets come in all colors except blue and the room is decorated with soft tones of multiple colors. The garnet bathroom is charming with its decorator accents and plush robes.
The Ruby Romance is one of the largest rooms with a two person soaking tub situated to look up at the mountain. The regal king size bed dominates the room decorated in warm red and gold tones. This memory foam bed is designed and manufactured by a chiropractor and is amazing! Signatures of some of the ancestors have been preserved on the wall; must have be a prank of some sort and probably made the Mom mad that adult children wrote on the wall!
The Aquamarine Dream is located on the first level of the house. Originally a sitting room it has been converted to a large, comfortable room with high ceilings and tall windows. The deluxe memory foam bed is a "split king" with remote controls for the active bases that can be raised and lowered into different positions. The private bathroom has the rough-hewn logs from 1845 and if you look closely you can see the shadow of a horse shoe that hung on the weathered wall. The plush wool carpet is delightful on bare feet.
There are five porches surrounding the Carolina Jewel: two upstairs and three downstairs.
The balcony off the upstairs hallway can be your hideaway facing the mountain as you enjoy a glass of wine, a good book, and a good friend.
The ground level Victorian porch, dressed in white wicker has the character and definition of a “Victorian Lady” with its four colors of paint and decorative trim.
The original 1845 porch is where many Sunday afternoons were spent with family, friends, and probably the Preacher! Relax your cares away in the wooden glider as you listen to the creek.
The porch outside the kitchen has its history too. You will see the plaque indicating the Historic Registry designation granted in 2002.
